You develop strength by mastering the strength qualities of the movements that you are doing.
As you develop those movements, and master them, your training leads you toward the strength qualities that are essential for winning. When you develop strength in any way, the strength qualities of that strength training become the foundation for your new strength characteristics. The most important part of strength training is the quality of the movements you are doing.
It is not the total number of reps you do, or the amount of time you spend doing the exercises. The movements that you are doing become the foundation for your strength and the characteristics of your strength. We often talk about a “5 rep range” or a “3 day per week” program because that is the way many programs have been programmed over the years, but the reality is that those 5-20 reps, 3-5 day per week programs only train the muscles. Training the muscles just creates strength but does not develop the strength qualities that make for success in jumping rope. The strength qualities of the movements that you are doing become the foundation for the strength of the muscles, which lead to the strength characteristics that create your success.

At this point, you will be able to understand that you are not adding total muscle strength to your strength training. The training of the muscles is only a part of the strength training and a very important part of it. The training of the muscles is called “muscle strength” training in relation to strength training for athletes. The muscles are called “muscle” because they produce force, generate pressure and do things that an athlete needs in order to jump rope.
